Heidi Hereth has been drawing and painting all her life. After graduating with a Diploma of Graphic Design in 1971, she worked as an Art Director and freelance graphic designer and Illustrator for many years.
In 1981 she started teaching graphic design at Randwick College of TAFE on a part-time basis. From 1993 she taught as a staff member at the Enmore Design Centre till her retirement. Her teaching duties had an emphasis on colour theory and drawing in the later years.
Heidi became an exhibiting member of the Royal Art Society of NSW in 1980 and has participated in their exhibitions since then. She became a member of the Randwick Art Society in 2014 and is currently their Secretary.
Heidi won the “Thirsty Artist” competition in 2009 and won both first and second prize in the Botanic Gardens Sketchabout competition in 2010. She was a semi-finalist in the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize in 2012. She has also had many solo exhibitions and her work is represented in private collections in Paris, Germany, England, Thailand & Australia.
Heidi paints in watercolours and acrylics, preferring a transparent style. She loves to paint nature, particularly the sea, both above and below the surface
Visits to central Australia and the Snowy Mountains in NSW have inspired her to paint rocks, boulders and cliffs, both there and on the coast..
I create plein air paintings whilst reclining on the beach. I use the beach as a studio even if I am working from reference, as I find swimming in the sea and snorkelling most inspiring.
